Rose is an abstract colourist. How each colour reacts when laid next to, or over other colours, is a constant path of discovery. Combining this with scale, proportion and balance, Rose builds up a layered surface using acrylic paint. Her recent work has been influenced by the sights, sounds and memories of the landscape, in particular the Pewsey Vale in Wiltshire. She works on several paintings simultaneously, but each painting takes her to a different conclusion, despite the starting point being similar. Ultimately, however, the painting itself dictates the resolution; as Matisse said, ‘filtering by memory’ is an important part of the process. Rose has participated in many exhibitions and also teaches Art History at Marlborough College.
